‘Furniture as a language’
“Furniture is like a language, it is structured just like a language. It is built from the entire past that precedes it.” says Matthew Sullivan, Los Angeles based artist and furniture designer behind the firm Al Que Queire (AQQ) – loosely translated from the Latin, “for he who wants it.” His work fits into a broader design revival, a new form of expression that doesn’t take itself as seriously as the high-minded work inspired by LA’s Midcentury Modernism.
